Match Day 25 of the First Capital Plus Premier League will see exciting matches played in stadiums across the country. Despite all eyes being on the Super Clash this match day, the results from the seven other games will potentially have more far reaching consequences than the game in Accra.WAFA drew 0-0 with Bechem United on Friday while Inter Allies played, annd beat, Heart of Lions 2-1 at the Tema Stadium on Saturday. AshGold v LibertyAshanti Gold are hanging on to the top by their fingernails.Inconsistency has caused their lead at the top to be reduced from seven to just two. And with the likes of Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars chasing tirelessly behind, they would need to step up their performances starting with the game against Liberty. They have scored 28 goals and this is less compared to the number of goals scored by Medeama and Edubiase who are seven and eight places behind them. Liberty do not exactly have a particularly good record. Many would spin their first victory in five games over WAFA largely on their familiarity with the poor pitch when they played at home. They would be hoping to keep Dansoman happy with a victory from Obuasi.AshGold (1st) last five games: L D L W L Liberty (8th) last five games: W L D L L Berekum Chelsea v MedeamaBerekum Chelsea squandered their opportunity to take over at the top of the league on the last matchday. The curtain is however not closed for that opportunity to take over as they are just two points behind AshGold and as such would need to secure a victory to stand a chance. The odds are in their favour as despite playing at home; they are the league’s most potent attacking side having scored an impressive 33 goals and conceded 22. They face a side that also deadly in attack; Medeama are the second highest scoring team in the league with 29 goals in 24 matches. They would come into this game hungry for a victory following their 2-1 defeat to Great Olympics. A negative result will see Medeama slide further down the league log from the safe ninth position it occupies. Chelsea (2nd) last five games: L W W W DMedeama (9th) last five games: L W D D L Hasaacas v Great OlympicsBoth teams come into the game following their victories in the last games.Hasaacas beat struggling B.A United 2-0 while Olympics beat Medeama 2-1 in Accra. Both teams have been involved in seven games since 2006 and the results have been even: three wins for both sides and a draw. This game is very crucial for Olympics who are in the relegation zone. A win can potentially see them leave the dreaded last three and possibly see them stay in the league. Hosts, Hasaacas would also want to keep home fans happy and a victory for them might see them enter the top four for the first time. A United have a fairly better record at home than their abysmal record away which continued last weekend at Hasaacas. They would face a strong Aduana Stars in the Brong Ahafo regional derby on Sunday. Aduana move one place up to third and can now be considered serious title contenders as they are just three points away from the reach of the league leaders. And with AshGold famous for their inconsistent performances, Aduana’s take over at the top would not surprising. That is, if they can also deliver. BA United are on the verge of regulation and a negative result can all but cut short their stay in the elite division. Wa All Stars will most certainly not want to disappoint their home fans just like they did six months ago. Unlike their opponents, All Stars don’t come into this game on the back of a victory having lost 2-0 to Heart of Lions. That defeat saw them go down yet again to the sixth position. For a club that, unlike three weeks ago, were seen as title contenders, this slump in performances is highly unappreciated by its fans and Wa Park will want to see excitement come Sunday. Annabell Fuller and Gemma Clews will represent England in the Nations Cup event at next week’s Helen Holm Scottish women’s open stroke play championship. The team trophy is awarded to the pair with the best aggregate score over all three rounds, which take place from 21-23 April. The first 36 holes are played at Troon Portland and the final round over the Old Course, Royal Troon. Both players are in great form. Fourteen-year-old Fuller (Roehampton, Surrey) was third individually in the women’s European Nations Cup last month and runner-up in the Harder Hall women’s invitational in Florida in January. She’s currently representing England in the French U21 women’s championship. Last year, the girl international won the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and had six second places. Clews, 22, (Delamere Forest, Cheshire) has won two top scratch events this season, with a combined score of 20-under par. She claimed the Delamere Comboy Scratch on her home course for the fourth time, before following up with last weekend’s victory in the Hampshire Rose at North Hants. Last season she helped England win the women’s Home Internationals and was third on the England Golf Women’s Order of Merit. The team reserve is Lancashire’s Sophie Lamb, 19, (Clitheroe, Lancashire) who is the current British stroke play champion. She was runner up in the Hampshire Rose and 8th in the Harder Hall.
