Whittier signs contract extending police protection to Girdwood

first_imgCommunity leaders in Girdwood have signed an interim contract with the city of Whittier for police protection for the ski-resort town.Girdwood lost its Alaska State Trooper post in September, due to state budget cuts.Girdwood’s Public Safety Advisory Committee has been working on a plan to bring law enforcement into the community. In April, Girdwood voters approved a service area tax to pay for police protection.The interim contract provides two Whittier police officers for Girdwood through January 22 of next year. A long term, three year contract with Whittier is still in development.last_img
